News UpdatesPANTHERS COMEBACK TO BEAT MUSKIESDate: Jan 09, 2010 The Pickering Panthers made a remarkable comeback scoring 4 unanswered goals to defeat the Lindsay Muskies last night in overtime by a score of 5-4. Brennan Knoblock made the start for Pickering and saved 30 of 34 shots faced to get his 2nd win as a member of the club. The Panthers trailed 4-1 midway through the second period when rookie Brayden Rose recorded his 1st career Jr A goal. Rose fired a shot from the point that deflected off a Lindsay player and managed to find the back of the net. Picking up the assists on the goal were Kyle Puiras and Pickering native Cole Watkins. Minutes later, Nikita Mandrik who the Panthers acquired earlier this week recorded his 1st goal as a member of the Panthers finishing off a nice passing play and putting Pickering to within 1 goal heading into the final 20 minutes. Justin Macdonald and Tyler von Engelbrechten recorded the assists. The 3rd period saw Lindsay come out trying to hold onto their lead and shut down any chance the Panthers could get at tying the game; however with less than 2 minutes to go Macdonald and veteran Blair Falotico went down on a 2 on 1 that saw Macdonald shoot and the rebound get to Falotico who made no mistake in finding the back of the net. Falotico picked up his Jr A career best 13th goal and 35th point of the season. Pickering managed to draw a penalty in the final minute of the 3rd that would send them to the power play in the overtime. Not even a minute in to the overtime Chris Gelenscer would be the hero for Pickering again, when he fired a slap shot from just inside the Muskies blue line that beat the goalie five hole and get Pickering the win. Von Engelbrechten picked up the assist on the goal, which gave him 3 assists on the night and a team leading 45 points. Pickering now heads into their final 10 games with only 3 games remaining on home ice. The Panthers have the weekend off and will suit up next on Thursday January 14th, when they travel to play Durham rival the Whitby Fury. Pickering then hosts the Cobourg Cougars Friday January 15th; puck drop is 7:30. These next 2 games are crucial for the Pickering squad as both the Fury and Cougars currently sit higher in the east division standings and if Pickering wants a shot at making the playoffs, wins in both these games could put them to within 6 points off a post season birth.
